As I'm on the edge of a slight post-gig depression I'll just try to get together last nights highlights. Hopefully D. will sneak in and add some stuff.
Start of Kitty Litter - oh my fucking god. You remember that quote about Steve hitting hard? Understatement of the year. Over this PA, he made my heart stop and then beat again to his beat. Seriously, this was, at times, like a hit in the stomach. A pleasant one.
I might have been a bit overexcited about Steve being the cutest thing ever, so at one point, I shouted 'Sunshine' really loud between two songs - apparently, the girl next to my sister was asking her friend 'What song this is, Sunshine?' :D
SteveSteveSteve!
Let's get it out of the way, shall we: He's great. Great drummer, great smile, great body. He did his little wave to the fans, was probably as happy to be there as I was, and is just generally Sunshine.
Love the energy this band has back now. I have seen them quite a few times now and even though I always enjoyed seeing them live, I also always admitted they have good days and bad days. And the last couple of shows I've been to in 07 weren't that extraordinarily fantastic. But now! They're putting on a show instead of just standing there and playing, I also think it's great that they have the rest of the band more prominently on stage now because everyone is really into it - Nick especially is going crazy on stage! It's a feeling of togetherness that makes them all the more strong.
I think they had their own camera crew because there were loads of people handling this stuff. Which was great as we got to see the rest of the band more often. Bill is so great, he's wearing that same expression since I've ever noticed him! He must be so into his own world whilst being on stage, really concentrated and all. Plus we got loads of Steve in slow motion and Brian and Stef from foot to head, slowly *smirk*
Stef is a phenomenon: He doesn't photograph well most of the time, but on stage, this man is pure sex. I think it was during Special Needs when I was watching him mesmerized playing bass - since then, my thights want to be reborn as his bass, tyvm. He was being all teasy going from one side of the stage to the other, staring at us with this Come Hither look of his that makes all your nerves tingle.
Stef stroking Sunshines cheek. The whole thing was awfully cute: At the end of one song (I can't for the life of mine remember what it was), Brian and Stef stood in front of Steve, slowing down the song, the three of them smiling madly. When they were finished, they looked at each other laughing and Stef leaned forward, caressing Steve. I'm melting again just thinking of it.
Funny stuff was the boy behind us, singing along to Infra Red like it was a Marilyn Manson song - you know, not the calm, spiteful 'you disgust me' voice Brian has going on, but full on hate mode shouting out loud.
Brian talked German, 'Hallo Damen und Herren, Brüder und Schwestern ... Wir spielen nun etwas alte Schule.' He thanked us for coming and staying around despite the weather (it was a 3 day festival and it had rained from Friday night until Saturday late afternoon, so the mud was insane.) And he thanked everyone who has bought the album as it is 'Steves first number one!' Steve was lovely doing fanfares (is this really the right translation??) after each sentence and a special, long one after that. He's so excited, it's just cute!
At the end of Taste In Man, while Stef and Brian were making noise :D, Steve came to the front, going from one side of the stage to the other, waving and sending kisses and fetching his well-deserved applause. It's a shame Brian didn't introduce the band and give us the possibility to show even more love (I just love how he throws little lovely stuff in while introducing them all). After that, they took Steve into their middle, bowed down and gone they were ...
