Tell a Friend

I love words. Ever since I taught myself reading many years ago, I can't help but reading everything that crosses my way. Whilst doing this, I can be completely absentminded when it comes to the real world. So naturally, lyrics are very important for me in a song.

Despite this, I adored Portugal. The Man from the second I first heard them - even thought the lyrics on their first album 'Waiter. You Vultures!' make little sense to me. They have now finished their 4th album and developed sooo much when it comes to lyrics that I am already shivering just reading the new songtexts. The album called 'The Satanic Satanists' will be out in July, they are playing some festivals in the States and Europe during the summer, and you can buy all their previous albums from their website portugaltheman.net

'People Say' is a taste of the new album and there are lines in this song that make me shiver. There are lines in this song I need to listen to again and again. I want everyone in the world to know them. I want to whisper them when the night is darkest, just before dawn, because 3am knows all my secrets*. I want these words to keep me alive when the world doesn't make any sense.

All the soldiers say it'll be alright // we may make it through the war if we make it through the night //
all the people they sing what a lovely day // yeah we won the war// May have lost a million men but we got a million more.

(it is a high quality rip from a live set, so it's not perfect - so if you want perfect, buy the album, so these guys can continue to make fantastic music)

*This is taken from Poppy Z. Brite's 'Lost Souls', a beautifully written book I highly recommend.
